Native plants for restoration and
landscaping projects.
Clearwater
grows a wide variety of high-quality native forbs (wildflowers), shrubs
and grasses for restoration and landscaping projects. Please see our
online catalog and availability list for plant species and container
sizes that we offer, or feel free to contact us directly as inventory
is always changing. Visitation to the nursery is by appointment only;
please give us a call 541-350-5261 to schedule an appointment.
Restoration: Grass, forb, riparian
and wetland plugs are generally custom grown for restoration (or
landscaping) contracts; however, plugs may be available for immediate
project needs. Plug sizes that we offer are listed here.
Landscaping: Plants are readily
available at our nursery and are grown primarily in 4-inch, 1-gallon
and 2-gallon containers. Custom orders may be secured via contract (see
below). Plants for landscaping are mature with well-developed root
systems. Many of our plants are drought tolerant and well-adapted to
the high desert climate of central Oregon. Once established, these
plants require much less water and maintenance than many ornamental
plants used in landscaping projects.
Hand-collected seeds and cuttings from local
sources: Clearwater hand collects propagation material
(seeds, cuttings, divisions, etc.) and records site locations so that
information such as elevation and watershed location may be available
to clients. Using propagation material from local sources facilitates
the success of planting projects, since plants grown from
locally-sourced plant material are better adapted to the regional
growing climate. Additionally, use of these plants helps to maintain
the local genetic traits of native plant species. Please contact us
directly to inquire about sourcing of seed and plant materials.
Custom contract growing
Clearwater can
custom grow various sizes, quantities and varieties of plants to meet
your landscaping or restoration project needs. We can hand collect
seed, cuttings or propagules and grow plants as specified or propagate
plants from seed that clients provide.
Planning projects:
Advanced planning is essential to successful project
implementation. Please contact us directly to discuss your
project. Clearwater works closely with prospective clients to properly
time availability of plant material, as each plant species has
different growth requirements.
Projects that require site-collected seed and plant material should be
initiated at least one year in advance of implementation. We have
included some general guidance below on how to plan for projects,
depending on the source of seed or plant materials, and the type and
size of plant material needed. Note: we emphasize that these are
guidelines intended to provide an example of how to plan
projects. Please contact us directly to discuss specific project
details, as there are many variations in how to produce these plant
materials.

Consulting on habitat restoration projects
Clearwater can
visit proposed project sites and develop localized species lists,
taking into account a particular habitat or variation in microclimate
to help ensure the success of outplantings. Clearwater can recommend
particular plant species or sizing of containerized plant material most
suitable for individual project sites. If noxious or invasive weeds are
present, Clearwater can make recommendations on how to control or
eradicate weeds prior to outplanting native vegetation.
